About

Kermit Ward’s journey to educational leadership began far from the superintendent’s office. Raised in public housing by a single mother, he learned resilience early. Without the presence of his father for much of his childhood, Ward found stability and discipline through sports—ultimately earning a full scholarship to Baylor University in track and field and football. Though he began his professional life in accounting, his true calling emerged unexpectedly. After stepping into a substitute teaching role during vacation, he discovered a passion for impacting young lives. He transitioned fully into education, beginning as a sixth-grade math teacher and steadily rising through leadership roles across multiple Texas school districts. Over the years, Ward has served as instructional coach, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent. His work in Pflugerville ISD and later as superintendent in Clarksville ISD and Vernon ISD reflects a consistent focus on culture transformation and raising expectations for students and staff alike. He believes that underperforming systems are rarely about ability—but about alignment, belief, and leadership clarity. Outside of his professional work, Ward enjoys deep sea fishing, golf, weight training, and traveling. He is an active member of the Rotary Club and remains committed to community service and mentorship. His story reflects grit, discipline, and a belief that leadership is about creating opportunity where it did not previously exist.
